In effort to implement the activities, Chain Foundation is faced with many challenges which include

  • Stigmatization of the visually impaired and other vulnerable children by the family and other communities.
  • The medical rehabilitation services are not readily available and lack access to medical facilities.
  • Lack of suitable and appropriate education program especially for the visually impaired.
  • Negative attitude (perception) towards the blind children by the community.
  • Lack of appropriate education material like Braille equipment such as Braille paper and machines.
  • Lack of technical personnel to repair Braille machines and lack of spare parts for the Braille equipment
  • Completion of the play ground that is under construction
  • Food and general upkeep of the vulnerable children
  • Sexual exploitation of the vulnerable children in society
  • Health problems including STDs and HIV/AIDS
  • Scholastic materials such as, exercise books, pencils, bags, etc
  • Need to build an integrated school for the blind and children with sight
  • High drop out rate of the blind from schools due to lack of fees
  • Need for volunteers to assist us in the ministry.

Causes of Visual Impairment and Blindness

  • Disease
  • Heredity
  • Poisoning
  • Inappropriate medical treatment
  • Cataracts
  • Failure to immunize children of the six killer diseases
